I have for sale an original (and very large) Hand Needle Felted "Aran Island Walk To Mass" which is mounted and framed in natural wood It is signed in the lower right hand corner. Felted onto felt material.

This piece portrays people living in the extremely remote, rural parts of Ireland, making their weekly trip to Church on a Sunday. The Aran Islands are off the west coast of Ireland. The felt painting tells a lovely tale of a boy and his granddad walking to mass behind his grandmother, who is up ahead gossiping with her friend. The grandmother in this piece is personal for me as her dress and gait are extremely like that of my own Nana back in the Eighties.

Materials:
Mostly natural sheeps wool, both in its natural shades of off white and brown, and also dyed various colours. It is felted onto a backing of mixed fibre material. Some merino wool has also been used.

My inspiration for this piece was a postcard I found. Immediately it reminded me of my own Nana and her life in rural Ireland. As a needle felted painting the 3d effect brings the atmosphere of this piece to life.

3-D effect.

This painting is Hand Crafted with Locally Sourced Galway Sheeps' Wool and some Fine Merino Wool. Needle felting is a technique whereby no fasteners (i.e. threads, glues etc.) are used. The wool is hand woven with a special needle to create beautiful felt from fluffy balls of wool.

Please remember that this painting is made from pure Wool and would shrink if washed.
